When dreaming isn't enough.

First of all, Hello! It's been a hot minute since we connected. I hope you've been well. I hope you've been living a life of joy and excitement. I hope you've been dancing in the rain and playing in the sunshine.
My last post spoke to procrastination and the ways to move through it.....I won't say the advice isn't sound because it IS but truthfully, I only followed it for a few days. Life is like that, we are like that....wanting a quick fix, a sure thing, a fast result. If it takes more than 3 business days, on to the NEXT!
When what really will move you along is slowing down, asking yourself questions that peel back the onion layers one by one by one. It seems counterintuitive to slow down to get ahead right? But if we barrel forward without direction or understanding we will either hit a brick wall or burn out. And then no one is winning or benefiting from what only you can deliver in your own way!
Think about the last time you pushed yourself to complete something. Was it easy and fulfilling? Did you enjoy the process or did you rush through it just trying to get to the finish line? Once you got there did you look back with pride or could you even remember how you got it done?
So what kind of questions could we ask ourself to peel back the onion layers? There are two lines of questions that I'm going to cover here - one is when we are having an emotional response to something in our life OR we are feeling lost. You might use questions like these:
Is this reaction coming from fear or anger or something else? If it is what memory is attached to it? Is this something I can "fix" or change in the next 90 seconds? Yes? Great how can I do that? No? Ok I'm going to write this in the notes section of my phone and come back to it. What age is this bringing up? Am I feeling unsafe right now?
The other can be used to refocus when we get distracted or frustrated at not getting where we want quickly enough. You might use questions like these:
How do I want to feel? Why is this important to me? Who am I most excited to help? What successes have I already had? Who can I loop in to celebrate my wins, even the tiny ones? What emotion do I want to evoke with my actions? What am I most excited about creating? If money and time were abundantly available and I could do anything at all - what would I want to do? Who do I admire greatly and why? What could I use from their experiences to motivate me now?
When peeling the onion back it's good to remember that your progress and answers are only as good as your questions. Garbage in garbage out. So if you feel like the questions aren't getting your answers that are helpful then try asking the question a little differently. Instead of "why am I feeling this way?" Try "is this (insert feeling like anger) trying to keep me safe?"
Keep dreaming and keep heading in the direction of your passions, just take a beat to check in with yourself. There is that saying "be laser focused on the goal but flexible in how you get there." You've got this and I'm here rooting you on!
